Supporting world-class Pelvic Health Physiotherapy Education

Supporting world-class Pelvic Health Physiotherapy Education

iMEDicare were really delighted to help facilitate two of the first Physiotherapy Prostate Rehabilitation courses that ran in the UK (Birmingham) and Ireland (Dublin) this Autumn. Organised by Birmingham based Men’s Health Specialist, Gerard Greene we welcomed internationally leading Physiotherapist Joanne Millios from Perth, West Australia.

Jo's PhD is focusing on Physiotherapy post prostate surgery and Jo is viewed as a leading clinician, tutor and researcher in this area. Her courses in Dublin and Birmingham focused on treating the common side effects post prostatectomy such as Stress Urinary Incontinence, Erectile Dysfunction, Peyronie's disease and pelvic pain. Thanks to Jo also for inviting Stephen and Sam of iMEDicare to present to her course participants on the work we do with the SOMAerect Vacuum pumps for erectile dysfunction. This was one of the 1st Physiotherapy courses to include a section on vacuum pumps and generated lots of discussion. Stephen (Ireland) & Sam (West Midlands/Wales) have extensive experience in this area as they go into the Urology clinics and see the patients there and then follow them up. There was also a lot of interest in the VIBERECT stiumulatory device and its role in pudendal nerve enhancement and its role in more mild erectile dysfunction. Another strand of Jo's PhD is using  therapeutic ultrasound for Peyronie’s disease and she was very interested in the SOMACorrect device and plans to try it on some of her clients. Lots of questions about our wearable technology also and especially the Neurotech Vital shorts which also travelled back to Australia with Jo. It was great to spend time with Jo and Gerard and to meet so many passionate Men's health physiotherapists who are driven to improve the lives of the prostate patients they see.

We were also excited to support Dr Ruth Jones' Athletic Pelvic Floor course in November 2016 in Birmingham. Ruth is an international expert in both male and female pelvic health and is viewed as a leading clinician, tutor, researcher and author in pelvic health physiotherapy. Ruth is also quite unique in that she is one of the few Physiotherapists worldwide to treat male elite sports people particularly in football and rugby. Ruth focused on male pelvic floor dysfunction in elite sport and also female conditions such as pelvic pain, urinary and bowel dysfunction. It was great that our colleague Sam was able to attend and present on our male products and also  the new female Vibrance pelvic floor biofeedback unit which we are all very excited about. We had great feedback on the course from all the delegates and look forward to hearing what their female patients think of it.

Well done to Gerard for running some great Pelvic Health Physiotherapy courses and for connecting us with so many great pelvic health physiotherapists. Gerard's Pelvic health physiotherapy clinic is based in Birmingham and can be found at www.harbornephysio.co.uk and he is avid fan of twitter @gerardgreenephy. Dr Ruth Jones can be found at www.cerianlife.com and @drruthcjones.
